Having qualified with a 'Distinction' in PGCE Secondary Education from the University of Bristol in 2020 and a ‘2:1’ BA English and French joint honours degree from the University of Southampton back in 2015, students will benefit from a highly academic, progress-oriented and creatively-minded tutor. I offer curriculum expertise with KS3-5 English teaching experience built over 5 years in the state/private sectors. 2024 Alevel Literature results included: 3 A*’s, 2 A’s, a B, and a C with all students achieving target grades or above. Additionally, I have enhanced DBS clearance giving you peace of mind.
My English tutoring is fully tailored to students' individual learning needs and is SEN-inclusive. I have previously worked with pupils with additional learning needs such as Dyslexia, Autism and ADHD and believe that with the right environment and support every learner can achieve their full potential. I align with Humanistic teaching theory, prioritising a nurturing, coaching-led relationship, prioritising student wellbeing and academic progress.
Tutoring slots are charged at £40 an hour for GCSE and £50 an hour for ALevel (zoom or in-person) and are payable weekly in advance of the session via Bank Transfer. I offer a 10% discount for block bookings of 10 sessions.
I start with a taster/intro session (£20 for 30 minutes) - to ensure a good personal fit, meet the young person and establish their needs and priorities, it is often helpful to see some student work examples. Following this, if both parties would like to proceed, we can then arrange a weekly, hourly slot.
I am based in Abergavenny, Monmouthshire and am happy to travel to your home if preferred to suit learner preference and accessibility needs. For at-home sessions, I request parents to be present.
I specialise in Year 7 - 11 GCSE English Language & Literature, iGCSE and AQA KS5 English Literature specifications alongside art and illustration tutoring. Historically, I have found that the use of visual aids and dual-coded resources boosts retention and engagement.

KS3 (year 9) short ‘Freedom’ poetry unit, studying writer’s techniques and effects and engaging with a range of poets from Emily Dickinson, to Simon Armitage, Vanessa Kisuule and Kae Tempest. Students analysed the theme of ‘freedom’ through close textual analysis of each poem and the unit scaffolded students’ writing of their own poems.
